Cabutazone is one of the anti inflammatory drugs for dog, horse, cattle, sheep, goat and camel can be used for various disease conditions as: dog joint problems, equine arthritis, chronic laminitis and used as a drug for fever in horse and the other mentioned species in addition to its use as an animal pain killer in injuries and after surgeries.
composition:
Each 1 ml of Cabutazone contains Phenylbutazone 200 mg.
Properties:
-Phenylbutazone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug related to the pyrazolone derivative.
-The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of phenylbutazone depend on its ability to inhibit hypothalamic cyclo-oxygenase
leading to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins and related compounds.
-This is followed by activation of heat loss mechanisms, i.e. panting, sweating and peripheral vasodilatation, and inhibition of thermogenesis.
-It also has the ability to trap or scavenge toxic oxygen-free radicals.
Indications:
-Cabutazone is indicated for the treatment of musculoskeletal and joint disorders such as arthritis, rheumatoid, myositis, acute and chronic laminitis, bursitis, tendinitis, and carpitis.
-also indicated for the reduction of post-surgical soft tissue reaction, pain and painful injuries in horses, cattle, camels, sheep, goats, and dogs.
-It is also indicated as an adjunct to a specific therapy in cases of pneumonia, mastitis, bacterial scours and endotoxic shock horses, cattle, camels, sheep, goats, and dogs.
Dose:
( By Slowly I/V or deep I/M in all animals except in equine by slowly I/V only).
4 mg / kg body weight.
Warnings:
The administration should be limited to a maximum of five successive days in animals and two successive days in dogs.
Contraindication:
Not to be used in case of known hypersensitivity, cardiac, renal diseases, edema and a possibility of gastrointestinal ulceration.
Withdrawal period:
Meat: 12 days.
Milk: 4 days.
