COLITRIM injection for Veterinary Use Only
COLITRIM injection is abroad spectrum veterinary antibiotic effective against gram +ve and gram -ve bacteria that’s why it’s used as: Dog and cat antibiotic treating various infections including cat bladder infection (cystitis), and for pneumonia treatment in cats & dog pneumonia. cattle antibiotic treating infections with salmonella and e coli in cattle in addition to its use as horse antibiotic.
Composition
Each ml of COLITRIM injection contains:

Sulphadiazine sodium 200 mg.
(Equivalent to Sulphadiazine base 183.85 mg.) - Trimethoprim 40 mg.
Properties
sulfonamide blocks the conversion of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) to dihydrofolic acid (DFA). Sulphadiazine belongs to sulfonamides that inhibit enzymes in the folic acid pathway, thereby inhibiting bacterial thymidine synthesis.
Trimethoprim blocks the conversion of DFA to tetrahydrofolic acid by inhibiting dihydrofolate reductase.
Sulfonamides have a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect against Gram-positive bacteria including most Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Actinomyces spp. and against many gram-negative organisms including Brucella spp., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Klebsiella spp., Pasteurella spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Actinobacillus spp.
Indications
COLITRIM injection is indicated for cattle, horses, dogs and cats for the treatment of:
- Respiratory tract infections such as rhinitis, pneumonia, bronchitis.
- Urogenital tract infections including cystitis, vaginitis, urethritis, nephritis and metritis.
Alimentary tract infections as neonatal diarrhea and salmonellosis.
Target species
Non-lactating cattle, Horses, Dogs, and Cats.
DOSE
cattle:
1 ml COLITRIM injection per 15 kg body weight by intramuscular or slow intravenous injection.
Horses:
1 ml COLITRIM injection per 15 kg body weight by slow intravenous injection.
Dogs and Cats:
1 ml COLITRIM injection per 7.5 kg body weight by subcutaneous injection.
A single injection may be sufficient in uncomplicated conditions, but in severe infections, it may be repeated daily for up to 5 days.
SIDE EFFECTS
Transient local reactions at the site of injection.
Withdrawal periods
cattle meat: 12 days.
CONTRA-INDICATION & WARNINGS
- Not used for animals showing hypersensitivity to sulphonamides.
- Not used for animals with severe liver parenchymal damage.
- Not used for animals with severe kidney disease or blood dyscrasias.
- Not used in lactating cattle.
Storage
Store COLITRIM injection at temperature not exceeding 30ºC and used immediately after opening.
