Colivet powder contains Colistin which is a bactericidal antibiotic that is highly effective against a variety of gram negative organisms and is indicated for the treatment of E.coli in calves and lambs , Infectious coryza , Fowl typhoid and Pullorum disease in poultry.
Composition
Each 1 gm of Colivet powder contains:
- Colistin 600 000 IU. (As Colistin sulphate)
Properties:
Colivet powder contains Colistin which is a bactericidal polypeptide antibiotic that is highly effective against a variety of gram negative organisms.
The mode of action is unclear but they may affect the permeability of the cell through an effect on the cell membranes.
Indications:
Colivet is indicated for the treatment of:
1 – Enteritis caused by E.coli in calves and lambs.
2 – Infectious coryza caused by Haemophilus paragallinarum in poultry.
3 – Pullorum disease caused by Salmonella pullorum in poultry.
4 – Fowl typhoid caused by Salmonella gallinarum in poultry.
Target Species :
Colivet powder used for Poultry, Calves and Lambs.
Dose:
to be added to drinking water.
2 gm Colivet per 15 kg body weight or 2 gm per 1.5 litres of drinking water for 5 – 7 days.
Contraindication:
Colivet powder Not used for animals
- showing kidney disturbances.
- Resistance against Polymyxins.
Side-effects:
Colivet powder may have Neurotoxic and Nephrotoxic effects.
Warnings:
Wash hands and exposed skin after use.
