Doxymucolin has a combination of antimicrobial activity & mucolytic effects to treat poultry & non-ruminating calves
Composition
Each 1 ml Doxymucolin contains
Doxycycline Hyclate ——–110.9 mg
(Equivalent to 100 mg Doxycycline base)
Bromhexine HCl ————10 mg
(Equivalent to 9.11 mg Bromhexine base)
Properties
Doxycycline is a wide spectrum antimicrobial agent, belongs to the tetracyclines group that possess antimicrobial activity by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible organisms
It has good activity against most mycoplasma, spirochetes, Chlamydia and Rickettsia and against gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococci, Actinomyces spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium perfringens and tetani and Listeri monocytogenes
Among gram-negative bacteria, doxycycline has activity against Bordetella spp., Brucella, Haemophilus spp., Pasturella multocida and Shigella
Bromhexine is a strong mucolytic agent, it has a value in achieving liquefaction and improved flow characteristic of mucous by increasing its volume and decreasing its viscidity.
It is suggested that bromhexine improves lysosomal function and that lysosomal enzymes hydrolyse the mucopolysaccharide fibres of mucous
