Composition:
Each 1 ml ATOFLUMIXIN contains:
Flunixin meglumine 83 mg
Eq. to Flunixin base 50 mg
Properties:
Flunixin meglumine is a potent, non-narcotic, non-steroidal analgesic agent with anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities.
Flunixin has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and mild uricosuric properties.
The proposed mechanism of action is by the inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
Target species
Cattle and horses
Indications:
Bovines: it is recommended for antipyretic activities in acute inflammation associated with diseases of the respiratory tract.
Pre- and post-ophthalimic surgery.
Acute coliform mastitis with endotoxic shock.
Equines: treatment of visceral pains associated with colic.
Treatment of inflammations and pains associated with musculoskeletal disorders.
Post-race treatment.
Pre- and post-ophthalmic surgery.
Dosage and method of administration
Bovines:
0.44 ml of per 10 kg b w IV every 24 hours for a maximum of 3 days.
Equines:
0.22 ml of per 10 kg b.w IV every 24 hours maximum of 5 days.
Warnings & Precautions:
Special warning: the cause of inflammation, pain or of the colic must be determined and concomitantly treated.
Precautions: incase of contact with skin, wash immediately with water.
Special precautions for the disposal of unused product or waste materials, if any: any unused
veterinary medicinal products or waste materials derived from should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.
Contra-indication:
Don’t use in animals with kidney diseases.
Do not use it in dehydrated, hypovolemic or hypotenuse animals.
Intravenous administration should be very slow.
Not be given an intra arterial route.
Withdrawal period:
Bovines: meat: 4 days
milk: 24 hours
Equine: meat 28 days
Side effects:
Non in the recommended dose but rare anaphylactic like reactions have been reported, primarily after IV injection when used in high doses. After IM injection, localized swelling and stiffness may be observed.
Storage Condition:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.
