Oxyclear injection is a veterinary antibiotic (oxytetracycline) used to treat microbial infections in cattle & buffalo.
Composition
Each 1 ml Oxyclear injection contains:
Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride —————-50 mg
( Equivalent to 46.3mg of Oxytetracycline )
Bromhexine Hydrochloride ——————–3 mg
(Equivalent to 2.74 mg Bromhexine)
Lidocaine—————————————— 20 mg
Properties
– Oxyclear injection is a synergistic combination between Oxytetracycline & Bromhexine.
-Oxytetracycline is a wide spectrum antibiotic, which is widely used for local and systemic infections.
Oxytetracycline has a bacteriostatic action against a large number of aerobic and anaerobic Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms, Rickettsia, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Actinomyces and some blood protozoa.
-The bacteriostatic effect is based on the inhibition of the synthesis of bacterial protein.
-Oxytetracycline penetrates very rapidly into the blood and tissues with high concentration and relatively a high percentage of oxytetracycline is bound to serum proteins, therapeutic levels remain in the body for long times.
-Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent which aims to make bronchial secretions easier to propel by ciliary action to expel by coughing and in this way reduce cough frequency.
-It is also of value in achieving liquefaction and improving flow characteristics of mucus by increasing volume and decreasing viscosity.
-It is suggested that bromhexine improves lysosomal function and that lysosomal enzymes hydrolyze the mucopolysaccharide fibres of the mucus.
-The advantage of bromhexine is that it brings about an increase in the content of immunoglobulin and Oxytetracycline in bronchial secretions, presumably by increasing membrane permeability.
-The addition of bromhexine to oxytetracycline (OxyClear) significantly increases the sputum concentration of oxytetracycline which is cleared from plasma more effectively in the presence of bromhexine.
-So the combination of bromhexine with oxytetracycline proves of value in the treatment of certain pulmonary Infections.
-The antibiotic activity is enhanced due to the synergistic action of bromhexine so bromhexine increases the efficacy of oxytetracycline against respiratory infections.
Indications
Oxyclear injection is indicated for the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections caused by oxytetracycline sensitive G-ve and G+ve bacteria as well as Rickettsia, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia, especially in cases of retained mucoid secretions in Cattle and buffaloes.
