Pharmaceutical form of Tylan :

Tylan is a Sterile injectable solution.

COMPOSITION:

Tylan contains:
Active ingredient: Tylosin (as the base) 200 mg in 1 ml
Other Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Water for Injections.

DESCRIPTION:

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces fradiae, an actinomycete.

PROPERTIES:

– Tylosin is relatively nontoxic.
– The oral LD50 in mice is greater than 5,000 mg/kg
– Other studies in dogs and cats further substantiate the safety of this antibiotic.
– Blood level studies have been conducted in cattle comparing injections of tylosin base to injections of aqueous solutions of tylosin tartrate. A longer duration of activity was evidenced with the injections of tylosin base.
– Measurable blood levels of 22 hours duration can be expected in cattle with a single injection of the preparation at recommended doses.
– Tylosin has an antibacterial spectrum that is essentially gram-positive, but it is also active against spirochetes, chlamydia, and certain gram-negative micro-organisms (not including coliforms).
– It is extremely active against mycoplasma species.

TARGET SPECIES:

Cattle, calves, sheep and goats.

INDICATIONS:

Cattle: Tylan 200 Injections are indicated for use in the treatment of pneumonia associated with Pasteurella multocida and Arcanobacterium pyogenes, foot rot (necrotic pododermatitis), and diptheria caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum, metritis caused by Arcanobacterium pyogenes, and acute mastitis caused by Streptococcus spp. and Staphylococcus spp.

Sheep and goats: Tylan 200 Injections are indicated for use in the treatment of early stages of peracute or acute forms of contagious agalactia caused by Mycoplasma agalactiae and caprine pleuropneumonia caused by Mycoplasma mycoides var. capri.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Cattle: Inject 5-10 mg/kg of body weight (0.25-0.5 ml of Tylan 200 per 10 kg) daily intramuscularly.
Treatment should be continued for 24 hours following remission of disease signs, but should not exceed 5 days.

Do not inject more than 10 ml per injection site.

Sheep and Goats: Inject 10 mg/kg of body weight (0.5 ml of Tylan 200 per 10 kg) daily intramuscularly.

Treatment should be continued for 24 hours following remission of the disease signs, but should not exceed 5 days.
Do not inject more than 5 ml per injection site.

SHELF-LIFE:
18 months, 28 days after opening.

STORAGE:

Do not store above 25 °C.
Protect from direct sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

Cattle: edible tissue – 7 days, milk – 72 hours.
Sheep, goats: edible tissue – 7 days, milk – 48 hours.
